Monkeyflower power and adapting to change with David Lowry at Michigan State University
Because of their diversity and other traits, hardy monkeyflowers have become the hot new plant to study. How biodiversity evolves in the first place, through the processes of adaptation and speciation, is what David Lowry, associate professor in the Department of Plant Biology in the College of Natural Science at Michigan State University, has spent his career studying. Understanding the creation of biodiversity has required Lowry’s lab to combine ecological, evolutionary, physiological, developmental, and genetic scientific approaches in their research on three model plant systems: monkeyflowers (Mimulus).
