Quick Profile

What got you interested in plants and plant science?
I have always been interested in biology growing up, but it was not until a travel seminar to Costa Rica where I was able to see the diversity of tropical plants that I gained an enormous respect for the ability of plants to respond to their environment. I have managed to combine this passion for plant stress responses with my interest in molecular genetics, and I am interested in understanding the mechanisms regulating gene expression during responses.

What is your research about?
Plant responses to stress through changes in genetic regulation.

What is the potential societal impact of your research?
My research may enable the production of crops that are more resilient to abiotic stresses.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I see myself as a professor doing research and spreading a love for plants through teaching.

On a Saturday afternoon, you'll likely find me:
Hiking with my dog Mulberry or baking
